William Paterson to Euphemia Paterson (July 17, 1787)

Phila. July 17th 1787
I expect to be with you on or about the first of next month and hope that I shall not be under the necessity of returning. The business is difficult and unavoidably takes up much time, but I think we shall eventually agree upon and adopt a system that will give strength and harmony to the Union and render us a great and happy people. This is the wish of every good, and the interest of every wise man.
