A Resolution Recommending That the Slave Kitt Be Emancipated at the Expense of the Commonwealth (June 14, 1779)

[14 June 1779]
Resolved, that it is the opinion of this committee, That the said negro Kitt hath rendered meritorious service to the Commonwealth, in making the first discovery and information against several persons concerned in counterfeiting money, whereby so dangerous a confederacy has been in some measure broken, and some of the offenders apprehended and brought to trial; that, in consideration of such service, the said negro Kitt ought to be emancipated and set free, at the charge of the Commonwealth; and that the sum of 1,0001., the value of the said slave, be paid to his master the said Hinchia Mabry, out of the public treasury.
