Alexander Hamilton to Mr. Duche (September 8, 1787)

Philadelphia, Sept. 8, 1787
I am very sorry that the situation of affairs here will not permit me to tell you what I want. I can not without indiscretion add anything to what I have already said.
According to all appearances the Convention will conclude toward the middle of the week. Up to now nothing has been communicated to the public about its operations.

You can tell the Marquis de la Fayette something which will bring him the greatest pleasure, that is, there is every reason to believe that if the new Constitution is adopted his friend General Washington will be the Chief.
