George Mason to George Washington (October 28, 1789)

Virginia Gunston-Hall Octor. 28th. 1789.
DEAR SIR
I beg Leave to introduce to you my Son's Partner in Bourdeaux, Mr. Joseph Fenwick; who is lately come over to America, to transact some Business for their House here this Winter, and will return to France early in the Spring.
I have nothing further to add to my former Recommendation of this Gentleman; except to express my Wish, that you wou'd take the Trouble of enquiring into Mr. Bonfield's Circumstances and Situation in Bourdeaux; being confident you will find the Account I gave I of them confirm'd. The late Consul, Mr. Barclay can, if he pleases, give full Information respecting them: and tho' such a disagreeable Situation may be more Mr. Bonfield's Misfortune than his Fault, I am sure it will not add to his Respectability in a public Character. I have the Honour to be, with the greatest Respect, Dr Sir Your most obdt. Sert.
