George Mason to John Fitzgerald (August 28, 1784)

Gunston-Hall Augt. 28th. 1784.

DEAR SIR

Mr. Robert Adam has been oweing me, a considerable time, four Hhds. of Tobo. Weights as on the other Side; having lately sold my Tobo. at six Dollars per hund. & a Dollar for Caske, & having included in the Contract all the Tobo. I shou'd deliver by the Middle of Septemr. I inform'd Mr. Adam, that if he did not pay me the said four Hhds. Tobo. in time for the sd. Contract, he must expect to be charged the above mentioned Price for it; in Answer to which he lately wrote me that you wou'd pay me the said four Hhds. for him, whenever I called for them; you will therefore oblige me in sending me notes for them (of the last Inspection) by the Bearer Capt. Simpson, as near the Amount as you conveniently can, in any Warehouse from Dumfries upwards; any Difference in the weight may be setled at the above-mentioned Price.

You were so obliging to settle & pay for me, this Last Spring, the Warehouse Charges on some Maryland Tobo. I ship'd to London; upon which I presume there must be a Balce. due to you' tho' I don't know the Amount. If you will do me the favour to transmit me the Acct. of it; whatever Balce. there may be due shall be immediately discharged.
