Gunston-Hall April 14th. 1786
It was 12 O'Clock last Night, before we got Home from Mr. Massey's, which has prevented my sending so early this morning, as I shou'd otherwise have done.
I now inclose you eight Loan Office Certificates, as List on the other Side; which you will do me the Favour to get properly setled, according to the established Regulations; and bring me up the Interest. As there is only a certain proportion of the Taxes (I think 2/3ds.) pble in Certificates for the Int. due on Continental Loans, it will be more convenient to have three Certificates for the Amount of the Int. due, than to take the whole in one Certificate, if no Rule of Office prevents it.
I heartily wish you and Mrs. Cockburn an agreeable Journey and safe Return; & am Dear Sir, Your affect. & obdt. Sert.

The four first Loan Office Certificates dated in 1777 bearing Int. originally pble in Bills of Exchange on France, I conceive are not subject to any Depreciation; but if there has been any established Rule of Congress respecting such Loan Office Certificates, they must be regulated accordingly.
N. B. Tho' 4 Pct. Int. only is mentioned in the Body of these Certificates; they bear, by a Resolution of Congress, an Int. of six . Ct. which so far as the Int. has been received, was paid at that Rate. G M
