Robert Carter to George Mason (May 11, 1781)

Nomony Hall May the 11th. 1781
SIR
It is said that the Legislature of this State have Established Some officer Claims founded on works returned by surveyers acting under the like authority of Mr. H. Lee who was appointed to Survey, by Some of the members of the late Company styled the Ohio Company—if this Report Should be well found—I apprehend that the Claims of such of the Members who choose to appear in the petition addressed to the house of delegates, may be revived immediately relying therein on the Establishment mentioned above as a president [precedent], to bottom their Claims.
If this Idea Should be approved on & a petition Shall be prepared & presented, pray have my name inserted therein for two fortieth parts, I having purchased two Shares of the late Mr. Augt. Washington and Mr. Garvin Corbin, members of the Ohio Company. I am Sir Your very Hum. Sert.
