Terms of Agreement between Christopher Gist and the Committee of the Ohio Company (September 11, 1750)

Agreement made with Christopher Guist by the Committee of the Ohio Company the 11th day of September 1750. for the greater Encouragement of the first Setlers upon the Company's Lands.
Whereas Mr. Christopher Guist proposes to remove one hundred and fifty or more Family's to the Ohio Company's Land on the Branches of the Mississippi to the Westward of the great Mountains. We hereby agree and oblige ourselves that all such persons as will remove themselves to, and settle upon the said Lands contiguous to each other, within two Years from the Date hereof shall have a Fee simple in any Quantity of the Companys Land not exceeding fifty acres for every person they remove more than four, or one hundred Acres for every person less than four upon the following Terms.
To pay the Ohio Company after the Rate of four pounds Sterling for every hundred Acres within three years after seating upon the Land to have their Title Deeds sign'd and acknowledged upon payment of the Consideration money. To hold their Lands five years Quit Rent free and then to pay the usual Quit Rent of Virginia.1 In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our Hands this 11th. day of September 1750.
